Overview

ALIBI ("we", "our", "the app") is a focus and productivity app for iOS. We believe your data belongs to you. This policy explains what data the app handles, how it's stored, and who can access it.

The short version: almost everything stays on your device. We don't run analytics, we don't track you, and we don't sell your data.

Data Stored on Your Device

The following data is created and stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your device unless explicitly stated otherwise.

  • Tasks — name, category (Deep Work, Study, Creative, Exercise, Reading, Other), estimated duration, actual focus duration, completion status, and dates
  • Focus sessions — start and end times, duration, task name, category, and whether the session was completed or abandoned
  • Proof photos — images you take to verify task completion, stored locally on your device
  • Display name — an optional name you choose, stored locally
  • App blocking preferences — which apps and categories you choose to block during focus sessions
  • Settings — preferences such as haptic feedback and onboarding completion status

Data Shared Between App Components

ALIBI uses an Apple App Group to share limited state between the main app, the home screen widget, and the device activity monitor extension. This data stays on your device and includes:

  • Active focus session state (whether a session is running, start time)
  • Selected apps and categories to block
  • Display name and preference settings

This sharing happens entirely on-device via UserDefaults within the App Group. No data is transmitted externally.

Data Sent to Our Server

When you complete a focus session and submit a proof photo, the following data is sent to our backend server for AI-powered verification:

  • Proof image — the photo you take of your completed work
  • Task name — the name of the task being verified

This data is sent solely to determine whether your proof photo legitimately demonstrates completion of the stated task. We do not store these images on our servers after verification is complete.

No other data from the app is sent to any server.

Third-Party Services

ALIBI uses the following third-party service:

  • Superwall — manages subscription paywalls and in-app purchase flows. Superwall may collect anonymized purchase and subscription data as described in their own privacy policy.

We do not use any analytics services, crash reporting tools, advertising networks, or user tracking frameworks.

Device Permissions

  • Camera — used to take proof photos of your completed work. Photos are stored locally and sent to our server only for verification.
  • Screen Time / Family Controls — used to block distracting apps during focus sessions. ALIBI uses Apple's official Screen Time framework. We never see which specific apps you use or choose to block. All enforcement is handled by the operating system.

Data Deletion

You can delete all of your data at any time from within the app. The "Delete My Account" option in Settings permanently removes:

  • All tasks and their associated data
  • All focus session records
  • All proof photos
  • All statistics and streak data
  • All settings and preferences

This action is immediate and irreversible. There is no recovery period.

Children's Privacy

ALIBI is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided data through the app, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
